Certificate not associated with Multicert client account

This article describes why the error “The certificate that you are trying to renew is not associated with the client account used in authentication” happens and its respective solution hint.

Problem description

When a certificate was registered in Sign’Stash with an initial Multicert’s user account (let´s call it account X), the certificate access renewal in Sign’Stash must be executed with the same Multicert account.

The described error message can be presented in Sign’Stash, if a renewal access is executed with a different Multicert account (let’s call it account Y). In this case what the system is alerting is that the certificate is not owner by account Y, thus it will not be able to execute its access renewal.

Since the authenticated account Y is not associated with the registered certificate, the following error will occur.

Solution

During certificate renewal, confirm that you authenticate with the proper Multicert account that you used in the initial certificate registry (on our example, account X).

If you have multiple Multicert accounts and are not sure to what account is the certificate related, please access Multicert client area and authenticate with each account to verify where the certificate is listed.

After successful authentication, verify if the desired certificate is associated with the logged in Multicert account.

After identifying the proper Multicert account related with the certificate to be used by Sign’Stash, please repeat the Renew Access to Certificate Authority procedure with the correct Multicert account sign in.
